To Dress up or Not to Dress up
Should you dress up for work? Well, this really all depends on what you plan to do with your nail business.
If being a nail tech is just a hobby, then being mindful of your appearance may not be important. You are not considering branding an image or you may not have a vested interest growing your business. You more or less do nails for fun.
However, if you are thinking long term and career or even having your own nail salon someday. Dressing the part will help you not only have a good business mindset, but it reflects how serious you are about being a professional.
This isn’t to say you should be in suite and tie looking as if you are going to a corporate job. This means you are neat and well groomed and mindful of your appearance.
Your look can be trendy or simple. You can have the look that reflects your style. After all this is beauty, and that comes in all forms. The key is to make it look good and fit the image you want for your nail business.
Possibly you could get away with just throwing anything on. But I’m a firm believer that you dress for what you want to attract in your life. If you are mindfully dressing as a business owner, you will feel and talk like one too.
I guess you can call this the law of attraction.
When you feel you look good, you feel good and you have a good attitude. This feel good energy keeps you motivated and striving for the next level.
Paying Attention to Details
There is a difference between being a hobbyist and being a professional. Professionals always take the extra step, they are mindful of the small details that they believe will make the difference in their business.
Try to think of it this way…
Just imagine seeing a person who isn’t well groomed. Clothes are crumbled dirty and hair looks as if it hasn’t been combed in ages. It might be safe to say that, this could be a reflection of how he lives too. Perhaps his/her house may not be clean or maybe their hygiene isn’t the best. Whether true or not this is what some people may think.
It’s really the same with being a professional. It doesn’t matter if you are a nail tech or a dentist. If you aren’t taking the time to pay attention to the details of how you are dressed, clients may think that perhaps you aren’t sanitizing your tools as you should or maybe other areas of your business may not be getting attention.
The way you dress can tell others how much you pay attention to details.
If you, your nail salon or station looks great, people have an easier time trusting your services and the things you say.
I have found that people take you more seriously & they value and trust your advice when your look says you take what you do seriously.
Ultimately its up to you, how you want to approach the question of how you should dress. Just use this as food for thought. How you dress means a lot in business. Choose wisely.
